Rural Livelihoods Projects

Happy child in Tanzania farming

Through education-based interventions, we build the capacity of rural communities to solve problems and navigate issues in the areas of agriculture, livestock, water, sanitation, and hygiene.

Red Knot is committed to holistic community development that addresses every aspect of human life.

We firmly believe it will be innovative Tanzanian farmers who create effective and lasting change within their communities.

Datoga Livelihoods

Partnership and collaboration are key in effecting lasting change. The Datoga Livelihoods project is a terrific example of this:

The project began when Kenyan missionaries living in Haydom asked our executive director to teach a basic introductory course on maize production to the Datoga people whom they were serving. Red Knot Racing Company funded Brett to facilitate that first training. Soon after he involved Tanzanian NGO One World Sustainable Livelihoods in growing the project.

Once the program grew to the point that it required additional and outside funding, Mennonite Central Committee and Growing Hope Globally stepped in to take the project to another level. What is being accomplished among the Datoga people is a beautiful story of sharing our responsibility to care for our neighbors and the planet we share.

What Makes Red Knot Different?

Maize harvest increase agriculture development

Rather than drawing attention to what communities lack, we focus on what they have.

By valuing local knowledge and relying on resources readily available to farmers, we ensure they develop confidence in their skills and resources, and have dignity in their work.

We aim for all developments to be sustainable to facilitate the adoption of long-term solutions.

Likewise all advances are reproducible to ensure adoption by neighboring communities is inherent in our work.
